Exhibitions at Loft Theatre

The Loft Theatre in Leamington offers local artists the opportunity to exhibit their work in the coffee lounge and bar during each of its productions. I have just taken over as exhibition co-ordinator and I am keen for the theatre to establish itself as a recognised exhibition space. It is planning a move into new premises in the next couple of years and I hope that this will offer an opportunity to mount bigger and better exhibitions. To achieve this we need to show that we can attract high quality work that will generate interest. If you would like to know more about exhibiting at The Loft, please see http://www.loft-theatre.co.uk/introduction/exhibit.php

Broadway Arts Festival

OPEN ART COMPETITION 2010 The 2010 Festival will be a celebration of the work of John Singer Sargent RA; Sargent painted his iconic Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose (hanging in Tate Britain) in a Broadway garden in the 1880's. With this in mind we are running an Open Art Competition for artists in Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Warwickshire. The theme is based on either a broad view of life in the North Cotswolds or reflecting the work of John Singer Sargent to tie in with the rest of the Broadway Arts Festival in 2010. The panel of judges will be chaired by Peter Wileman, President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the main prize will be the John Singer Sargent Prize of £1000. Amongst others there will be a prize for young artists (under 25) please let us know if you qualify for this on the registration form. Details of the competition and the registration form are available on our website at www.broadwayartsfestival.com. For queries please contact Competition Co-ordinator Arabella Kiszely at ajkiszely@aol.com or 01386853739. We hope you will take part and could you pass this on to any of your friends who might be interested.

Sculpture Tuition

SCULPTURE TUITION Offered by experienced sculpture tutor BEATRICE HOFFMAN at her own studio near Preston Capes, (near Daventry, Banbury, Coventry, Rugby, Northampton and Leamington Spa). Clay will be the main medium, but carving (Durox) stone is also possible. Imaginative and portraits heads, animals or the human figure, and abstract forms are all important elements of the teaching. The main emphasis however will be on nurturing the personal imagination, developing own ideas, and thereby improving ceramic techniques. This individualised "art school" approach to teaching benefits students, and as they get stimulated by the variety of styles and subject matter around them. An extensive library of sculpture books is available, and many sculptures on display - both student's and mine - supplement the teaching. Two new groups have started with fornigthly meetings, that last longer (five hours). This should allow to go more into depth within one session, and make it more viable for students coming from a further distance. Many students will start off their sculptures inspired by the group and the teaching, others will bring work from home to finish off; students with their own well established practice might want constructive feedback on sculptures created at home. HOLIDAY AND WEEKEND workshops are aimed at children, teenagers and working adults wanting one-off intense sculpture tuition, either half or full a full day. Once a year in June there is a mixed exhibtion at the studio and garden, in which those students who feel motivated can contribute towards, and show alongside professional artists. Complete beginners and all levels of experience welcome. One or two trial sessions possible for newcomers at £28.
